Graphic quality assurance and development – Evaluations
Quality assurance and development system at UZH: evaluations

Since 2001, the UZH Evaluation Office has systematically audited all organizational units at UZH every six to eight years. This evaluation procedure is coordinated with two other strategy and quality development processes: quality management processes for education and teaching and management processes (strategy and development meetings).

Evaluation Procedure

The procedure consists of the following five steps:

  • Evaluation agreement
  • Self-evaluation
  • External evaluation with on-site visit from peers
  • Target setting agreement
  • Monitoring (as part of strategy and development meetings between the relevant dean and the unit under evaluation)

This multi-step evaluation procedure is based on national and international standards and is continually developed by the Evaluation Office.

Subjects of Evaluation

The following areas are subject to evaluation: academic organizational units, certain study programs, support services and management bodies (dean’s offices, central offices, the Executive Board of the University).

Third Evaluation Cycle

The third evaluation cycle, which will run until 2026, began in the Fall Semester of 2018. Some new aspects have been introduced for this cycle. The processes are more flexible and straightforward than before, and there is a stronger focus on management processes, on the Strategic Principles and on the development plans of the Executive Board of the University, the faculties and the organizational units under evaluation.
